Why Choose the Czech Republic?
Children’s medical care in the Czech Republic is excellent, and has a good international reputation as well. The Czech Republic has one of the lowest neonatal mortality rates (0.15 %) in Europe as well as in the world. A decline in infant mortality rates is one of the major successes of Czech paediatrics and of Czech medicine in general since 1989. Over the past twenty years, it has declined to one quarter of its value back then, which is something unique in the world.
Children’s Diagnostics
The most frequently requested type of care is a basic comprehensive check-up and consultation with a paediatrician. Diagnostics are required when the child has some health issues or symptoms indicating that they could begin: these are primarily skin problems, growth pains, etc. A basic check-up can be supplemented with further examinations stipulated by the doctor (e.g. immunological, allergy, or genetic examination), with consultations with specialists, and the use of imaging methods.

Children’s Ophthalmology
Treatment of eye disorders in children cannot be postponed, because delays could cause permanent consequences. Children’s ophthalmology in the Czech Republic is at an excellent level. Children’s eye centres offer treatment to patients with congenital eye defects, strabismus (crossed eyes), amblyopia (lazy eye), refractive defects, or frequent eye infections.

Children’s Cardiology
In some cases, heart defects in children require “only” careful monitoring, but other times surgery is required. Children’s cardiology deals with both diagnostics and non-surgical therapy of the heart and vascular system. At this age, the main problems are congenital defects of the heart and large blood vessels, which are assessed and operated on by respected teams of children’s cardiologists and heart surgeons in modern cardiology centres.

Children’s Orthopaedics
Most childhood orthopaedic defects are not painful, so they must first be found, for if caught early, they can be treated with a high degree of success. Children’s orthopaedics offers a wide range of treatment and surgical techniques and equipment. Specialized children’s orthopaedic centres focus on reconstructive orthopaedics as well as on limb-lengthening surgery. Doctors specializing in the area of children’s orthopaedics usually work at university hospitals and offer mini-invasive as well as classical orthopaedic surgery. The Czech Republic has a very well developed centre for children’s spinal surgery.
