The Moravian city of Olomouc is a home to the Fort Science where science becomes alive before your eyes and in your hands. You will find it at the preserved artillery depot in the city centre. The depot used to be a part of the fortification walls 150 years ago and it is a science centre that provides an informal environment for playful discoveries of natural and social phenomena, both for children and adults.
The individual expositions at the Fort Science in Olomouc focus on water, light and darkness, and there are also science workshops and a digital planetarium. You will walk through a brain model, meet some bigger-than-life water bugs, flood the city with a 100-year flood, solve giant puzzles or explore the starry sky in the digital planetarium. You can even try the rotating flight simulator for pilots and astronauts – the gyroscope. A series of huge graphic canvases show a brief presentation of the most interesting historical battles of Olomouc. The Fort Science is managed by the Palacký University and so you will be accompanied by students, passing their love of science onto the little visitors. The exhibits have English legends.
