“Driving into the city from the serene surround areas, I can already tell this place is a hidden gem, waiting to be uncovered,” Rodney says while driving into Brno, the second-biggest city in the Czech Republic. This final destination of a ten-day road trip across the Czech Republic still manages to surprise and capture the attention of the filmmaking musician and his group of friends.
One of the first things they notice in Brno is that people tend to congregate in open spaces. Check out the video for glimpses of the life and public art around Moravské náměstí (Moravian Square) and Náměstí Svobody (Freedom Square) or the nightlife around Jakubské náměstí (St. James Square), where the local pubs spill out onto the streets. Performing arts fans get a look inside a number of venues, from Sono Music Club to backstage at Janaček Theater, local home of opera and ballet.
The group also finds a landscape of unexpected experiences in Brno, ranging from where they stay to what they see. Rodney describes the interactive vibe of Anybody Hotel as “20% hotel, 80% experience” with rooms inspired by movies and emotions. The creative twists continue as the group visits an underground bunker converted to a hostel, bar, and historical exhibition, and tries ordering cocktails by tasting candy at Rodney’s favorite local bar (watch to see which one). He recommends “paying attention to the details” to fully appreciate the atmosphere. The group steps inside plenty of places to catch an overview of scenes from Brno’s nightlife landscape.
Rodney describes the overall vibe in Brno as “a small city with a lot of charisma and an emerging nightlife.” Take a virtual visit with this video and you just might be inspired to follow in his footsteps.
