Mordechai Maisel had many buildings constructed in Prague’s Jewish Quarter in his time. Among the most important were the High Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue and the “klauses” (small buildings) on the site where the Klaus Synagogue now stands.
He also had the main street of the Jewish Quarter paved and had the first Jewish hospital built. One of the other buildings whose construction he decided on as mayor was the Jewish Town Hall. The Town Hall is located in the very heart of the former Jewish Quarter on the corner of Červená and Maiselova streets, opposite the Old-New Synagogue and the original entrance to the Old Jewish Cemetery. Dating from 1577, it was built in the Renaissance style. After a fire in 1755 it was rebuilt in the late Baroque style. What visitors to see today dates from the Rococo period.
