For lovers of Cubism, a must-see destination is the first building ever designed in this style – the House of the Black Madonna in Prague, a masterpiece of Cubist architecture by the famous Czech architect Josef Gočár.
Dům U Černé Matky Boží (At the Black Madonna) is located in Old Town between Celetná Street and the Fruit Market. It is named after a Baroque sculpture placed on its corner. After a general reconstruction, the building became the place for the permanent exposition of Czech cubism, managed by the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. The gallery organises temporary thematic exhibitions and educational programmes. The first floor is home to a unique cubist café, the Grand Café Orient.
