PLATO, City Gallery of Contemporary Art
Modern visual art, a hydroponic farm, a café, a cinema, permaculture gardens, a bistro, a stage, a library... This is an unusual mix of art spaces divided into two areas in the centre of Ostrava - the historic abattoir building and the former hobby market.

PLATO

In addition to expositions in 6 exhibition halls with rotating walls, you can also find a café in the former slaughterhouse building. It includes a growing wall with hydroponic salad, which you can buy or taste as part of the local menu.

An equally interesting feature of the PLATO is the Garden of Presence, which is based on the ethical and practical principles of permaculture, i.e. an ecological and meaningful arrangement. Here you will find apple trees, perennials, medicinal herbs, and a habitat for aquatic animals and plants. An edible garden for people and animals is also planned.

PLATO Bauhaus

Just a few steps from the PLATO is a former hobby market building, where its size has created an independent artistic "microcosm". Inside, you can visit the bistro, the cinema with deck chairs and cushions instead of seats, the various performances on the monumental stage that blurs the boundaries between stage and auditorium, the library with reading room, or the Garden of the Future in the partially covered atrium. An interesting part of the space is the Material Library - a catalogue of samples of leftover or waste materials from mostly Ostrava companies.
