Nové Mlýny recreation zone

Pálava is primarily known as a wine region. The rolling hills and extensive vineyards are reminiscent of the Italian wine region, which is why Pálava is also called Moravian Tuscany. There are also three reservoirs for swimming, fishing and windsurfing.

The three reservoirs below Pálava, called Nové Mlýny, were built in the 1970s to prevent annual floods and increase the intensity of agricultural production. The upper reservoir is intended for recreation, the middle is a nature reserve with islands for bird nesting and the lower for irrigation, electricity, fishing and recreation. Nové Mlýny are used for swimming, fishing, windsurfing or boat transport. The surrounding area is suitable for hiking and cycling. The road connecting Dolní Věstonice and Strachotín winds along the dam. On one of the two islands, which were created after the reservoir had been filled with water, stand the remains of the Church of St Linhart, which was part of the now flooded village of Mušov. The church is probably the oldest Romanesque church building in the Břeclav region. There is no regular boat transport to the island and the church is not normally accessible.
