A Dominican monastery founded in the 13th century used to stand here. It was the seat of the local council and the regional governor from which the regional governor (a royal official) ruled Moravia. Since 1935, it has been the seat of the city’s representatives and officials who were relocated here from the Old City Hall.
The City Hall has a Renaissance foundation but it was rebuilt in Baroque style later. Included in the complex are two courtyards through which you can walk to Husova street. You will certainly notice the sundial from 1728 and the fountain with its allegories for the 12 months of the year. Among the most remarkable sections of the interior are the Knights’ Hall or the Assembly Hall with ample decorations and frescoes by Daniel Gran. The Gothic cloister is currently used as exhibition space.
