Funicular to Petřín in Prague - out of operation
Extreme rains in September 2024 stopped the operation of the funicular to Petřín and damaged the track. Work on a new funicular to Petřín will start in spring 2025 and operations should resume in summer 2026.

Take the Prague funicular up to the "Czech Eiffel Tower". You will enjoy views of Prague Castle and pass through the so-called Hunger Wall from the 14th century. The funicular with its terminus at the top of Petřín Hill is the oldest funicular in Czechia - it has been in operation since 1891. It is also one of the most visited Czech attractions.

It is said that the funicular is just a train gone awry and that it is the work of mad architects. In reality, it is an ingenious compromise between an elevator and a train - it hangs from a rope while staying on the rails. You simply must experience this half-kilometre ride!
