Way of the Cross on the Holy Hill

Before its seven-year construction was completed in 1630, the whole Way of the Cross had already been built with seven chapels representing the seven Passion stops.

Because their number varied historically, the Way of the Cross was even brought to Mikulov in the 18^th century with 14 stops. However, this Way of the Cross did not serve religious pilgrims long. It was the Dietrichsteins family, thanks to whom after the desecration of the Chapel of St. Sebastian during the reign of Emperor Joseph II that the whole complex of the Way of the Cross was not demolished and that you can still pass through it today. But it’s not only lovers of rituals who come to the Holy Hill. The area where the Way of the Cross stands, is a nature reserve, you can observe, for example, rare butterflies. The rock formation that form Holy Hill is a Jurassic limestone cliff, making its surface covered with steppe trees and plants.
