Temple of Apollo in the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape
There are mythical images of the god Apollo on a sun chariot, a pair of cupids with Apollo’s lyre and four figures of the muses. All of these are part of the figurative elements on the front facade of another magnificent structure built for John Liechtenstein on the side of the Mlýnský Pond.
The Empire-style manor, dedicated to the ancient sun god Apollo, is decorated with simple Doric columns. A winding staircase ascends to an imposing terrace with a Classicist balustrade. The manor was built in 1817–1819 by the Viennese architect Joseph Kornhäusel, who succeeded Joseph Hardtmuth as the Liechtensteins’ principal architect. The interior of the temple is unfortunately not open to the public.

Follies in the Lednice-Valtice Complex
The appearance of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is significantly influenced by the small structures that the Liechtenstein family had built to beautify the landscape for their pleasure. On your visit you will see quite a number of these remarkable objects. One of them is Apollo’s Temple, on the banks of Mill Pond, from whose roof you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside and lakes. Equally notable is the Temple of Diana, decorated with reliefs from ancient mythology. In addition to a number of stately homes you will also be captivated by the New Farm, a Great Moravian settlement called Pohansko (meaning Pagan), and an obelisk which was erected to commemorate the peace between France and Austria in 1797.
