Novosedly is one of the largest, oldest and historically most important winemaking villages in South Moravia. Discover its charms for yourself.
Novosedly is one of the four largest winemaking villages in Moravia. A 3-kilometre nature trail through the vineyards of Stará hora (Old Mountain) will acquaint you not only with the cultivation of wine but also with its proper degustation. You can sample its lush wines in the wine-cellar lane with cellars dating to the 18th century. The varieties Riesling (Ryzlink vlašský), Grüner Veltliner (Veltlínské zelené), and in less optimally located vineyards also Müller-Thurgau, have been thriving in the clay soils of the Novosedly region for ages. More recently, French varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have found their place. The exceptional quality of the Novosedly wines is due to the uniqueness of the terroir, which in the local vineyard tracts is mostly composed of gravel, sand and clay with a high content of limestone rubble, and the excellent microclimate created by the river Dyje (Thaya).
