Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications 1938 in Slup
A small concrete fort, rising only slightly above the surrounding terrain, is a living reminder of a time of tribulations for the nation: the German occupation in 1938. Descend into the bowels of the fortress and judge for yourself whether the robustness of the Czechoslovak defences could have changed the course of history.
The light fortification is located near a dirt road close to a cross on the southern outskirts of Slup. It has been restored to a state corresponding to that during the mobilization of autumn of 1938. The bunker is fully armed and equipped with wooden shooting tables, fully functional mirrored periscopes, ventilation fans and other equipment from the time of the September 1938 mobilization, including kit items of the building’s crew. The Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications displays other military material and objects associated with the period of the First Republic. You can see the position of a heavy anti-aircraft machine gun, on which is mounted a Schwarzlose vz. 7/24, and an exhibition of fortification models. Weaponry of the now abolished border guard and other objects fill out the exhibition.
