Bishop’s Mint in Kroměříž
The last mint in Moravia
Go back in time and see the former power and glory of the Bishops of Kroměříž. Today’s building of the mint dates back to 1665 and it is the last preserved mint in Moravia.
The mint was often a thorn in the ruler’s side, especially when it produced more coins that the emperor’s mint in Vratislav. Marie Terezie put a definitive stop to minting the bishop’s coins in 1759, when she abolished the mint and ordered that its entire inventory be transferred to the Emperor’s mint in Vienna.
