Winter Fun in the Czech Mountains

Krkonoše

The largest Czech mountains Krkonoše offer a plethora of ski centres of various sizes. The most famous of these – the Špindlerův Mlýn Resort features 25 km of ski slopes in three centres – Svatý Petr (St. Peter), Medvědín and Labská. The most renowned of them all, Svatý Petr hosts major international sporting events every year. Skiing on the sunny slopes can be enjoyed in Medvědín, which is connected with the Horní Mísečky centre by a chair lift. Being the largest winter resort in the Czech Republic, the Černá Hora – Pec SkiResort, consists of five ski centres with 41 km of pistes, all accessible with just a single ski pass. Lots of fun can be had in Pec pod Sněžkou on the unique Funline trail with banked bends and an 8-metre tunnel or on a track with timekeeping devices for giant slalom and downhill skiing. The Krkonoše Mountains offer over 90 km of groomed cross-country ski trails. The upper station of the chair lift to Pláň Peak provides an unusual spectacle in the form of an Ice Temple.

Klínovec Ski Resort

Located about 120 km northwest of Prague, the largest ski resort in the Krušné Mountains has some new exciting features in store for you this winter. The main one is the new Jáchymov chair lift with a 3 km long piste. In total, you can ski on almost 19 km of slopes, serviced by modern bubble chair lifts. Cross-country skiers can look forward to five groomed circuits of all difficulty levels totalling 49 km. The actual peak of Klínovec offers facilities such as the Apres Ski bar, ski rental, children's area including a child minding service and ample parking. The Klínovec Ski Resort is connected to the neighbouring Fichtelberg Ski Centre in Germany, where you can make use of up to 15.5 km of ski slopes. A regular free of charge bus service runs between the two centres.

Lipno Ski Resort

As the uncontested largest skiing grounds in Šumava, the Lipno Ski Resort offers 11 km of ski slopes of all degrees of difficulty, a snow park and ski cross track. The youngest lovers of white sports can enjoy themselves at the Fox Learning Park featuring not only magic carpets and free admission but also fun activities for children staged every day. Tireless skiers can take advantage of night skiing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., while non-skiers can look forward to a great evening of sledding in the floodlit Fox Park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Open daily even in winter, the Treetop Walkway is located next to the chair lift upper station. You can spice up your holidays at Lipno by going skating on the lake or cross-country skiing around the ski resort, trying out some of its 40 km of groomed trails.

Dolní Morava featuring a walk in the skies and a fire show

Regarded as the top Moravian resort, Dolní Morava prides itself in its biggest attraction - a unique observation tower known as the Sky Walk. You can get to the top by chair lift and then zoom down on your skis. While up there, you can admire the beautiful views of the entire range of the Jeseníky Mountains and in good weather conditions you can see as far as the Krkonoše. The Dolní Morava Winter Centre offers 7 pistes of varying degrees of difficulty. Families with young children will undoubtedly appreciate the Amálka Ski Park with a children's lift, carousel and fairytale characters while lovers of adrenalin skiing can go wild in the Fun Line with its banked bends and undulating terrain for skiers and snowboarders. Organized in the Czech Republic only by the Dolní Morava Resort, the traditional Adventure Night promises a fire show, freestyle exhibitions, fire jugglers and a dance performance staged by local snowmobile drivers. In the winter season the event is held every Saturday from 8 p.m. To put it simply, Dolní Morava is certain not to disappoint anyone.

Kouty nad Desnou – boasting the highest number of ski slopes in Moravia

Offering a plethora of opportunities for downhill and cross-country skiing, the Kouty Ski Resort is another Moravian centre with modern facilities. With its 11.5 km of pistes, the resort holds primacy in Moravia in terms of the length of the ski slopes. Obviously, there is also a children's park with a magic carpet, ski lift and learning aids for teaching children to ski. Cross-country skiers can make use of three marked circuits. Put on your cross country skis and head for the Dlouhé Stráně pumped-storage hydroelectric power station where you can feast your eyes on wonderful views of Praděd and the whole of the Jeseníky Mountains.

Czech SkiPass

All of these mountain resorts, plus several others, come under the Czech SkiPass project, allowing you to ski in 23 major resorts throughout the Czech Republic using just a single all-season pass card, and taking advantage of 190 km of ski slopes serviced by 175 cable cars and chair/ski lifts.
