Czech Director's Film Nominated for an Oscar
This is already a tremendous success! The film Waves (Vlny), directed by Jiří Mádl, has made it to the shortlist for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. The last time the Golden Oscar in this category went to a Czech film was in 1997, when Kolja won.

On Waves of Courage

Waves tells the true story of journalists from Czechoslovak Radio who fought to deliver independent news during the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968.

It has become one of the most-watched Czech films yet. You can also follow the footsteps of this story yourself when visiting Prague. The building of today's Czech Radio is just steps away from shopping district around Wenceslas Square and the National Museum, which witnessed the horrors of the August occupation by Soviet forces.

For a taste of the “radio atmosphere”, you can enjoy a coffee in the Czech Radio building's café. Surrounding the area, you’ll find numerous design shops, restaurants, and cafes. It's also a popular meeting point in Prague.
