Czech Winter: Wellness and Active Holidays in Spa Towns
Dreaming of a winter holiday that combines the magic of snowy landscapes with perfect relaxation in the warmth of a spa hotel? The Czech Republic offers an ideal mix of active experiences and spa indulgence, catering to sports enthusiasts and those who prefer baths, saunas, or soothing massages.

Relaxation Hand in Hand with Winter Sports

In western Bohemia lies the Czech Spa Triangle, featuring Mariánské Lázně, Františkovy Lázně, and Karlovy Vary, alongside Jáchymov and Teplice in the foothills of Krušné Mountains. On the opposite side of the country, you’ll find Jeseník Spa and Karlova Studánka. These towns, with their fairytale architecture, offer more than just mineral springs and spa treatments. They are also gateways to snowy adventures, ideal for those seeking a combination of active holidays and relaxation. Whether you prefer downhill skiing, cross-country trips through snowy landscapes, or picturesque winter hikes, there’s something for everyone.

From the Slopes Straight to the Spa

Imagine spending your morning skiing and your afternoon relaxing in a thermal pool. In Mariánské Lázně, the Mariánky Ski Area is just a few hundred metres from the spa colonnade. Perfect for skiers and snowboarders, this resort is easily accessible from the town. Don’t have your own gear? The hotel staff are there to assist. Mariánské Lázně is also a paradise for cross-country skiers, offering approximately 90 km of groomed trails near the Mariánské Lázně Golf Club and in the Slavkov Forest around Kladská.

For the ultimate combination of winter sports and spa relaxation in western Bohemia, head to Jáchymov Spa. Nearby, you’ll find the Klínovec Ski Area in Krušné Mountains, the largest interconnected ski resort in the Czech Republic. Another highlight is the Plešivec Ski Area, one of the newest and highest-altitude ski resorts in the country. It’s conveniently located near both Karlovy Vary and Jáchymov. Cross-country enthusiasts will enjoy the 41 km of trails linking local winter resorts in Krušné Mountains. For something unique, visit the small Eduard Ski Area between Jáchymov and Boží Dar, where you can try skijoring – a thrilling activity where a cross-country skier is harnessed and pulled by one or two dogs!

Sport and Relaxation in the Cleanest Air

Jeseník Spa and Karlova Studánka are places where every breath feels healing. These areas boast crystal-clear air, often ranked among the cleanest in Central Europe. The mountainous terrain is perfect for downhill skiing and cross-country adventures. Jeseníky Mountains offer slopes at Ramzová, Snowpark Filipovice, and Červenohorské sedlo. After sports, unwind in the thermal spa at Velké Losiny, which features an expansive thermal park.

In the Krkonoše Mountains, you’ll find Janské Lázně, home to the largest ski resort in Czechia. Thanks to its location, this spa is excellent for preventing respiratory and skin conditions. The SkiResort Černá hora-Pec comprises six interconnected ski areas linked by ski buses. With one ski pass, you can access 50 kilometres of slopes with excellent conditions, thanks to the high altitude. Cross-country skiers will enjoy the Krkonoše Trail, which offers trails with breathtaking views of the Krkonoše panoramas.
