Zlín Region: Luhačovice Spa & Active Relaxation in Nature
Luhačovice Spa, the largest spa resort in Moravia located near Zlín, is the perfect destination for those seeking a combination of relaxation, therapeutic treatments, and beautiful natural surroundings. This gem of the Zlín Region offers visitors not only unique mineral springs with healing properties but also a wide range of opportunities for active relaxation. Surrounded by the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area, it serves as an excellent starting point for both hiking and cycling trips.

Luhačovice Spa: An Architectural Gem with a Modern Colonnade

Lázně Luhačovice is renowned for its unique Art Nouveau architecture, closely linked with the work of the famous Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič. As you stroll through the town, you’ll pass colourful buildings adorned with natural motifs, charming dormer windows and decorative gables. Be sure to visit the most important local structure, the Jurkovič House, which now serves as a welcoming hotel set in the heart of the spa park.

The natural centre of spa life is the Luhačovice colonnade, inspired by functionalist architecture. The colonnade captivates with its layout, glass façades, benches, and little shops. It begins near the Jurkovič House and curves gracefully into the central spa hall, home to Luhačovice’s most famous spring, Vincentka.

Our Tip: Try this sweet treat with its characteristic aroma and unique flavour – spa wafers. They’re best when still warm!

The World of Healing Springs

Natural healing springs are Luhačovice’s greatest asset. They contain high levels of sodium, calcium, magnesium, and carbon dioxide, and are considered among the most effective in Europe. These springs have proven therapeutic effects on the respiratory system, digestion, and musculoskeletal disorders.

Luhačovice mineral water Vincentka was once served at the imperial court and in Viennese cafés. It is used for drinking cures, gargling, and inhalation, particularly for respiratory illnesses, vocal cord issues, and digestive problems. Vincentka is commonly available in bottles, as nasal sprays, and is also added to toothpastes and Vincentka lozenges.

Our Tip: Visit Luhačovice at the beginning of May for the two-day festival Opening of the Springs, featuring a rich cultural programme that symbolically marks the start of the spa season.

The Spa World: Relaxation for Body and Soul

Lázně Luhačovice is surrounded by lush greenery and a beautiful spa park, which perfectly complements the town’s unique beauty and fairytale atmosphere. The town offers a wide range of hotels and guesthouses with wellness programmes, including massages, cosmetic wraps, hydromassage baths and wax wraps. The spa also provides therapeutic stays in modern balneotherapy facilities, with tailored treatments prepared by the local medical staff. In short, when you leave Luhačovice, you’ll feel relaxed, refreshed, and full of energy.

FYI: Luhačovice Spa is the only spa in Czechia to have received a prestigious certificate for its carbonated bath balneotherapy facility, awarded in the ESPA Innovation Awards 2016. This honour recognises the best European innovation in medical spa treatment by the European Spas Association.

Active Relaxation: Hiking and Cycling in the Zlín Region

Once you've had your fill of spa treatments and relaxing in the pools, you can set off on one of the picturesque routes that will take you through rolling hills, deep forests and historic landmarks steeped in the past. Among the most attractive is the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which links major pilgrimage sites and showcases the region’s cultural heritage, including Velehrad and St. Hostýn. Nature lovers will enjoy hiking through the varied landscapes of the White Carpathians, the Beskydy Mountains and the Hostýn Hills, where breathtaking panoramic views await. Cyclists can take to the trail along the Bečva River, the scenic Bevlava route along the Moravian-Slovak border, or the path following the unique Baťa Canal.

Our Tip: Add some variety to your cycling trip along the Baťa Canal with a boat ride and a tasting of traditional Moravian wine.
