L'area sciistica Horní Mísečky – Medvedín a Špindlerův Mlýn

Ski lift to the mountain-tops

Take the modern four-person ski lift to the summit of Medvědín peak (1,235 m), situated above the confluence of the Elbe and White Elbe rivers, northwest of Špindlerův Mlýn. The ski lift is in operation year-round; in the winter it transports skiers to the start of the pistes and cross-country trails, and in summer it is used by cyclists.

In the winter, several pistes of varying difficulty, topped by a 1 km long track with an elevation of 280 m, start at the summit of Medvědín peak. Families with smaller children and less-experienced skiers enjoy the sun-kissed hillsides over Horní Mísečky. Several ski tows and well-maintained pistes are available, and snowboarders can use a snow park with its own ski tow. The cross-country trails in Horní Mísečky serve as a starting-point for tours along mountain ridges with beautiful views of the Krkonoše Mountains. A children’s ski park for the very smallest skiers is situated next to the lower terminus of the main ski lift.

Along mountain ridges on foot and by bike

As it is in winter for cross-country skiers, during the rest of the year the summit of Medvědín is an excellent starting-point for hiking and cycling tours along the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains. Take these trails for stunning views of the alpine zone, including the highest mountain in the Czech Republic – Sněžka (1,062 m). Going via the Golden Peak (Zlaté návrší) it is easy to get to the Pančav and Elbe Waterfalls, the Elbe Chalet (Labská bouda), the source of the Elbe and the Sněžné jamy (Snowy Hollow) on the Czech-Polish border.

Around halfway along the route to the source of the Elbe is the Vrbata Chalet, where you will find mounds commemorating Bohumil Hanč and Václav Vrbata, whose story is a heroic epic of Czech skiing: the two men froze to death in March 1913, when both were taken by surprise by a sudden snow fall during a fifty-kilometre skiing race.

Where next?

Wondering what to do and where to go next in Špindlerův Mlýn? There are loads of options! Whether it’s winter or summer, water-lovers and lovers of wellness procedures will enjoy the local water park, including a year-round bobsled run, with a canopy walkway right next-door; in places frequented by skiers and cross-country skiers in the winter you can ride on mountain scooter and quad bikes in the summer. Popular action activities include crossing the Labská water reservoir on a high rope. Go on an outing with the kids on the tourist train or follow the Mlynářova stezka (Miller’s Trail). These, generally undemanding, trails start in the municipal park on the right bank of the Elbe, opposite Hotel Savoy.
