The Polabí Region, spreading out along the banks of the main river course of the Elbe, is a region of large areas of water. You can enjoy the harmonious countryside from the deck of a pleasure cruiser and thus get to know an idyllic place eminently linked with the names of the composer Bedřich Smetana or the writer Bohumil Hrabal.

A spa with a tradition reaching back a hundred years

The calming surroundings of the colonnade surrounded by greenery, stylish cafes and the calm banks of the River Elbe. This is a fitting description of the spa destination Poděbrady, which offers interesting cultural and sporting activities. Have a rest by the therapeutic springs and then set out further to the pilgrimage site of Stará Boleslav, which is linked with the death of the most important Czech saint, St. Wenceslas. Get to know the Basilica named after him, which stands as a monument to the place where he was treacherously murdered by his brother Boleslav, or continue on to Mělník with an ossuary hiding the remains of as many as 15,000 people in its darkened walls. You can enjoy the view from the Mělník Chateau, famed for its extensive collections of the Lobkowicz family and vineyards, with a glass of the famous local Ludmila wine.

Another interesting place to visit is medieval Nymburk with its original brick architecture, chateau residence of the astrologist Tycho de Brahe Benátky nad Jizerou or the Habsburg Brandýs, where you can refresh yourself with a beer in the Baroque brewery. Lovers of adrenaline can head out for the Soviet tank park in Milovice, try their hand at aquazorbing on the lake in Poděbrady or get lost in the Loučeň Labyrintharium.

From the Polabí region, “across” to Kokořínsko
