Apartment house Convalaria in Brno
Walk through a passageway that used to smell of coffee and perfumes
Until the 1970s, many intellectuals, students and well-to-do ladies used to meet and discuss current matters in a café situated in the first floor of this apartment house from 1937, designed by architect Oskar Poříska. And the perfumes?
The house was built by Mr and Mrs Mikulášek, owners of a cosmetics factory called Convalaria. The whole house was named after one of their shops situated on its ground floor. The house has a notable spatial arrangement – every floor had only two flats but each of them had very spacious four rooms. Part of the six-floor building is also the shortest passage in Brno, connecting Česká street with Veselá street.
