A unique view of the city from a church bell tower and the underground with an ossuary guarded by an angel.
The Church of St. Bartholomew in Kolín in Central Bohemia was probably founded by Přemysl Otakar II, one of the greatest Czech kings and the founder of the oldest royal cities. It includes a remarkable baroque ossuary, which has the form of a four-sided chapel and is decorated with motifs reminiscent of human mortality and transience. The entire space is ruled by an angel who invites the dead to the Last Judgment. In terms of the number of fragments and the richness of the ornamental decoration, it is a building comparable only to the ossuary in Sedlec near Kutná Hora within the Czech Republic!
A small lapidary was recently created in the church grounds, where relics of historical elements from the church of St. Bartholomew and its surroundings are. On the first floor, it is possible to view the exposition of the temple's treasure, where monstrances and chalices are on display. In the exhibition under the bells, you can try playing the carillon.
