Nymburk and its brewery was made famous by writer Bohumil Hrabal. Go for a walk around its picturesque Gothic town walls and through the romantic Velké and Malé Valy alleys, discover the English park on a large Elbe island, the Art Nouveau water tower and the figurine with two left legs on the altar of the Gothic St Giles Church.
An educational tourist trail with 68 stops will take you through Nymburk. Among others, it includes the port, medieval fortification and a weir on the Elbe. You will also see the Old Fisher House, in which, as legend has it, then 18-year-old Elizabeth of Bohemia (mother of Emperor Charles IV) hid, and the Turkish Tower, which served as a waterworks, as well as the Malthouse, where malt for Nymburk beer was made as early as the 16th century.

The slogan “vaše podlomené zdraví pivo upevní a spraví” (Our beer will strengthen and improve your weakened health) is inseparably connected with the Nymburk brewery, where writer Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997) spent his childhood and adolescence as well. The brewery, where his father was manager, offers tours combined with a tasting of Postřižinské beer. If you would like to do some sport, go biking or rollerblading on the path along the Elbe River banks. At Ostrá, just a short distance from Nymburk, you will discover Botanicus, a historic arts and crafts village. Chleby Zoo is also attractive. The Romanka observation tower near Hrubý Jeseník, one of the lowest-located observation towers in the Czech Republic, is a curiosity.
