The heyday of Kadaň occurred during the reign of Karel IV, when extensive vineyards were cultivated around the city. Today the medieval winery tradition of Kadaň is commemorated by the St. Wenceslas Vintage. The festivities begin with prayers, followed by the opening ceremony of the St. Wenceslas Vintage in the gardens of the Franciscan monastery. You can see an exhibition on the wine industry in Kadaň and watch with your own eyes how the grapes are crushed, ginned, mashed and pressed. The highlight, of course, is trying fresh fermented wine, grape must and wine.
