Czechia: A Paradise for International Film Crews
The latest adaptation of the classic horror film Nosferatu was directed by renowned horror filmmaker Robert Eggers. The lead role is played by Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of actor Johnny Depp and singer-actress Vanessa Paradis. The demonic vampire is portrayed by Bill Skarsgård, son of acclaimed Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård.
In 2023, much of the film was shot in the Czech Republic, a favorite among international film crews due to its rich history, stunning architecture, and high-quality film production facilities.

Nosferatu’s Haunting Filming Locations

The film’s eerie atmosphere is enhanced by stunning Czech locations, including the Gothic-Renaissance Pernštejn Castle, the Rožmitál pod Třemšínem chateau, Kublov village, the Tušť sand quarry, and Prague’s Invalidovna. Scenes were also filmed near the Velká Amerika quarry, with the main character residing at the Libochovice chateau. The filmmakers captured the wild beauty of the Prachovské Rocks. At the same time the historic Olšany Cemetery in Prague played a crucial role in the film. The cemetery is also a great place for summer walks, offering a cool escape thanks to its dense tree cover.

A Czech Artist Among the Oscar Nominees
Czech set decorator Beatrice Brentnerová, along with production designer Craig Lathrop, has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Production Design. Brentnerová’s role in Nosferatu was to meticulously recreate the atmosphere of 1838 Europe, capturing the era’s way of life, religious rituals, and social customs. Her work encompassed everything from interior and exterior furnishings.
