The sequel to the legendary Czech video game Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is finally here – and according to early reviews, it’s a smash hit! Fans have been waiting for years, and now they can look forward to an even more refined story, stunning graphics, and a richer game world. This time, the story moves from the Sázava region near Prague to Kutná Hora, one of the most important medieval cities in Europe, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Life in the Middle Ages continues
The story loosely follows on from the first instalment. The main protagonist is once again Henry of Skalitz, the blacksmith’s son, who finds himself caught in the middle of power struggles at the beginning of the 15th century. However, his journey to deliver an important letter quickly becomes more complicated.
The first instalment of the Czech game Kingdom Come: Deliverance (2018) captivated players worldwide, selling eight million copies, making it one of the most successful games in the world.
The main attraction of the second instalment is the detailed reconstruction of the city of Kutná Hora, which, according to the developers, is the most faithfully recreated medieval city ever seen in a video game. Players can explore not only its historic centre but also its surroundings, including the natural beauty of Bohemian Paradise, the Malešov fortress, and the local brewery. The move to Kutná Hora in Central Bohemia is an excellent choice, as this UNESCO-listed city holds immense historical value and an incredible atmosphere. We highly recommend visiting it!
After all, the entire game is inspired by real locations and true historical events. A first glance at the massive fortifications and the unfinished St. Barbara’s Church is breathtaking (in reality, it is a magnificent Gothic cathedral). Kutná Hora was one of the most important medieval cities in Europe. Silver was mined there, scholars of the time gathered, and Czech kings minted coins in Kutná Hora. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (abbreviated as KCD), however, you will also see another unique feature: the surroundings of Trosky Castle, modelled in the finest detail.
The developers from the Czech studio Warhorse have placed even greater emphasis on historical accuracy, not only in the environment but also in combat. Fans of historical RPGs will experience a great deal during gameplay: in addition to wandering through the medieval landscape, they can visit the local tavern and try out firearms and crossbow handling.
What to see in Kutná Hora:
- St. Barbara’s Church
- Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region (GASK) in the Jesuit College
- Sedlec Ossuary
- Old Town
- Chocolate Museum
- Stone Fountain
- Czech Museum of Silver
- Wallachian Court with the Mint of the Czech Kings
- Wine cellars in the Convent of St. Ursula
Kingdom Come is a gaming banger
The story of the first Kingdom Come instalment took place in the Sázava region, rich in historical monuments. The entire area near Prague can be conveniently visited by train, known as the Posázavský Pacific. As part of a journey into the game’s world, the adventure begins in Rataje nad Sázavou, where you can visit a permanent exhibition dedicated to the first instalment of Kingdom Come as part of the castle tour. From the railway stop, set off on foot, and once you have climbed a few elevation metres from the valley by the Sázava River, you will be rewarded with a view of the Gothic Pirkštejn Castle, just a short walk from the chateau in Rataje nad Sázavou. Following the Sázava River, you will reach the village of Ledečko, from where you will face an ascent through the Sázava forests. Another historical monument featured in the game is Talmberk Castle.
