International Music Day
We’ve been celebrating International Music Day for almost fifty years on october 1. It’s a big day for musicians, of course, but also for music fans all over the world. Celebrate it in Czechia and see what an amazing and diverse range of festivals and concerts the country has to offer. We’ve put together a few tips for some interesting music events coming up in the autumn.

Waves of Joy, the bass player from Davis and the violinist who works with Linkin Park

In the first half of October, make sure you don’t miss the Jazz Goes To Town international music festival in Hradec Králové, with this year’s slogan being Waves of Joy. This year you can look forward to acts such as the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and American Luke Stewart, rated by the renowned Downbeat magazine as one of the 25 most influential jazz artists of his generation.

This year’s Prague Sounds music festival, which has been delighting audiences for 25 years now, starts on 1 November and presents a selection of music you won’t hear anywhere else. It will feature artists such as double bassist Ron Carter, who played in the Miles Davis Quintet together with Grammy Award-winner Herbie Hancock. And that’s not to mention violinist and looper Owen Pallett, who has worked with bands such as Duran Duran, R.E.M and Linkin Park.  What makes this Prague festival so special is that it features performances in the best venues! Concerts will be held, as always, in the Rudolfinum with its dress code, as well as in the DOX Gallery and now also in the National Gallery and the Trade Fair Palace.

The Czech Philharmonic will commemorate the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution

If you’re more into classical music, we recommend seeing the concerts by the Czech Philharmonic, a world-class professional ensemble from Prague. They give regular concerts all year round in the Rudolfinum, their home ground. However, to mark the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, on 16 and 17 November the Czech Philharmonic will play two unprecedented concerts, lead by top conductor Antonio Pappano. We recommend buying tickets in advance online ↗.
