The Prague Spring will open with the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, conducted by Tomáš Hanus from the Czech Republic. Daniel Harding will appear conducting the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Essener Philharmoniker will be performing with their chief conductor, Tomáš Netopil from the Czech Republic. Czech orchestras will be conducted by John Adams from the US, Klaus Mäkelä of Finland, and Ukrainian Oksana Lyniv.
Historical music will be performed by Les Talens Lyriques with its French founder Christophe Rousset, and by the German countertenor Andreas Scholl. The composer-in-residence of the Prague Offspring weekend of contemporary music will be Georg Friedrich Haas, who will make an appearance with the Klangforum Wien chamber orchestra.
World-class soloists
The Rudolfinum will be welcoming mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená accompanied by Japanese-British pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The Rudolfinum concert hall will also host a performance by Russian-German pianist Igor Levit. French harpsichordist Jean Rondeau will be performing in the historical setting of the Convent of Saint Agnes.
This year’s festival will continue the tradition by concluding with Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 conducted by Christoph Eschenbach from Germany.
The Prague Spring concerts will be held at many places around the city. Venues that will be filled with the sound of music include, for example, the Art Nouveau Municipal House, the National Theatre, the National Technical Museum and Vyšehrad Cemetery.
