Meet Czech Music Stars
Kateřina Kněžíková
Kateřina Kněžíková is one of the most promising sopranos of the younger generation, who, besides opera, is increasingly focusing on her concert repertoire.

The most promising soprano

She specialises primarily in Italian bel canto and the operas of W. A. Mozart. However, her voice can also do justice to the works of world-famous composers such as Antonín Dvořák, Bohuslav Martinů and Leoš Janáček. She has won a number of prestigious prizes, including the BBC Music Magazine Awards. Other winners of this award include Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli and star Czech conductor Jakub Hrůša.

As part of the latest Year of Czech Music she is the main star of the new version of Dvořák’s most famous opera, Rusalka, in the National Theatre in Prague. She will appear with the Czech Philharmonic in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and is to perform at the Dvořák Prague festival.

She and her husband Adam Plachetkawill also star in the concert performance of the opera Libuše at the Prague Spring festival and at Smetana’s Litomyšl.
