Hiking in the Liberec Region
In Czechia, stepping into the mysteries of history is like a magical cure. A climb to Bezděz Castle keeps you in top form, even after a hearty Czech feast. The Liberec Region is a true paradise for hikers. Numerous trails will lead you through the most beautiful corners of the region. Discover unusual rock formations, the iconic Ještěd, or one of the most photographed natural landmarks. And all of this in the cradle of traditional Czech glassmaking!

Ridge Trail: An Experiential Hiking Route

Jizera Greenway

Our tip:
The Bozkov Dolomite Caves are ideal for family trips.

The Czech–Polish Ridge Trail is one of the most well-known and most visited routes in the Liberec Region. It connects various natural and cultural areas, passes through the Jizerské Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains, and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. It is part of a long summit trail. Along the way, you can look forward to lookout towers, viewpoints, waterfalls, natural landmarks, castles, and châteaux, as well as various options for refreshments and accommodation.

It is the ideal choice for more demanding hikers, as it offers challenges but also opportunities to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside. We recommend heading to the Elephant Rocks – strikingly white rock formations visible from the road when ascending to the Jitrava Saddle between the towns of Jablonné v Podještědí and Liberec.

Crystal Valley: The Liberec Region is the cradle of Czech glassmaking. Within the Crystal Valley, you can peek into glass workshops, witness traditional glass production, and purchase unique glass souvenirs. You can, for example, visit glassmaker Jiří Pačinek, whose sculptures appeared in the American black comedy Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

Lužické (Lusatian) Mountains Beer Trail

The Lusatian Mountains

Our tip:
A gentle ascent to the summit of Jedlová Mountain with its stone lookout tower offers a great chance to sample another local beer at the chalet just below the tower.

The Lužické Mountains Beer Trail leads you through a picturesque landscape rich in brewing tradition. You’ll enjoy natural beauty, local beers, and the welcoming atmosphere of small breweries and cosy pubs.
Make a stop at Cvikov Brewery, where traditional beers like the pale Sklář lager and top-fermented specials are brewed. You’ll also find an excellent local selection at the pub U Vohnoutů in Kytlice.

The trail starts in Česká Lípa. You can walk the full route or take it in stages – it will lead you to places such as Tolštejn and Mount Luž.

Our Tip for a Trip:

Panská Rock

Off the Beaten Path for a Pint of Golden Brew

Trip from Kytlice to Česká Kamenice
Start: Kytlice (Helene guesthouse and microbrewery)
Finish: Česká Kamenice: information centre, Kotouč Brewery
Length: approx. 15 km
Difficulty: Medium
Markings: a combination of Tourist markings (yellow, blue, green) and unmarked sections

  1. From Kytlice, a village full of charming timbered cottages, set out along the yellow trail towards the crossroads Pod Polevským vrchem. From there, continue along a well-trodden path to the summit of Polevský vrch.

  2. Descend from the summit along an unmarked path to a small chapel and then to the crossroads Nad Polevskem, where you join the blue trail leading to the former basalt quarry Klučky. Continue along the blue trail to Panská skála, also known as the Organ Pipes – one of the most photographed natural landmarks in Czechia.

  3. At the information centre near Panská skála (Panská Rock), the trail continues (through the centre of Kamenický Šenov) along the green trail to the ruins of Kamenický Castle, which offers breathtaking views of Bohemian Switzerland, the Central Bohemian Uplands, and the Lužické Mountains.

  4. Descend into Česká Kamenice, where you’ll end your trip – ideally with a visit to the information centre or the Kotouč Brewery.

Ještěd: The Iconic Landmark of the Region

Our tip:
Perfect for romantic moments and stunning photos. At Ještěd, you can stay overnight and indulge in a feast.

One of the most famous symbols of the Liberec Region is Ještěd, with its unique futuristic structure combining a hotel and a transmitter. It’s an iconic building, impossible to overlook, and well worth a visit. You can stay the night or enjoy a gastronomic experience. From Ještěd – beneath which you can ski in winter, and whose base is accessible by tram directly from the centre of Liberec– you’ll enjoy breathtaking views over the surrounding landscape. You can taste traditional Czech dishes and soak in the atmosphere of one of Czechia’s most significant architectural masterpieces.

SYCHROV CHÂTEAU: Sychrov is a dream for filmmakers – the British series The Aristocrats and the Oscar-winning war drama All Quiet on the Western Front were filmed there! Thanks to its French Romantic architecture, richly decorated interiors, and picturesque surroundings, it has served as the backdrop for countless films and fairy tales. Its magnificent halls, lavish furnishings, and vast English-style park lend a magical atmosphere to any story. Expect grand gardens and falconers with birds of prey.

Spa and Wellness

Libverda Spa

After a day full of experiences, treat yourself to some well-earned relaxation in the local wellness centres and Lázně. A popular destination is Lázně Libverda, where you can enjoy healing mineral springs and soothing treatments. Lázně Kundratice, the oldest sulphuric Lázně in Bohemia, are located in the picturesque foothills of the Lužické Mountains near Osečná. Thanks to the presence of a natural sulphur spring and a therapeutic peat deposit, they specialise in treating musculoskeletal conditions, rheumatic diseases, and skin disorders.

And where else to go?
