Enjoy the splendour of Art Nouveau to the full over a cup of coffee in the legendary café at Prague Main Railway Station. You'll find it in the Fanta’s building which together with the adjacent hall above the platforms forms the largest Art Nouveau monument in Czechia.
Built in 1901-1909, the Fanta's Café is characteristic of its high dome, the walls of which are decorated with Art Nouveau motifs and sculptures reminiscent of the Czech towns to which the railway from Prague led at the time the station was built. The café was originally a departure hall, later it served as a place to wait for the train.
The architect Josef Fanta is the author of the entire historic building which, like the whole station, is a national cultural monument.
Interesting fact
In 2021, 4,875 pieces of 24-carat gold were used in the restoration of the iconic golden wings sculpture (from 1907) at the top of the Fanta’s building tower!
