Legend has it that Emperor Charles IV treated his ailing limbs in the local spring on the site of the historical market beneath the Chateau Tower. The oldest spa in Karlovy Vary used to stand here.
Today the site of the former City Hall is a carved wooden colonnade in Swiss style. Designed by Viennese architects, it was built at the end of the 19th century. In its interior you can find three mineral springs: the Charles IV Spring, commemorating the legend of the great emperor, then the Lower Castle Spring and the Market Spring.
