The square Smetanovo náměstí in Litomyšl
Are you standing in the middle of an elongated square that gives you the impression of a wide boulevard? Yes, the square Smetanovo náměstí really was originally a trade route, which was created around the houses of the rich burghers, often beautifully decorated.

Right there the medieval Litomyšl was situated, flourishing under the protection of the hard castle and later the comfortable palace. And it’s still full of life today.

See for yourself that the square has a large number of Baroque, Classical and Empire style façades. Almost everything that was older, was destroyed by one of the several city fires, but Litomyšl has always risen like a phoenix from the ashes. However, the arcade was preserved in a large part of the square, once built so that it was possible even in the rain to walk around the square with feet dry. If sprinkles of rain or the sharp rays of the sun trouble the square, you will also appreciate it on a tour of the architectural monuments, important not only for their appearance, origin and design, but also because of the many prominent personalities who lived in their walls.
