One of the most beautiful and oldest buildings in Litomyšl is located on the grounds of the square Smetanovo náměstí, opposite the town hall tower. It's called the Knights' House and was built in the Renaissance style in the year 1540. Today it is one of the jewels of Czech Renaissance urban architecture.
The original appearance of the house is complemented by the high Renaissance shield, replaced after the fire in 1814 of the Empire attic. Even just the facade of the building itself is a work of art. How many characters on it can you recognize? Beside the Knights, who gave the building its name, you can also see a student or a buyer and can even find here a mermaid, lion or unicorn. The Municipal Gallery of Litomyšl is located in it. Under the preserved Renaissance coffered ceiling you can now see one of the temporary exhibitions of fine art.
