Stará Boleslav

Stará Boleslav is an ancient place of pilgrimage, associated with the martyrdom of the patron saint of the Czech lands St. Wenceslas. On the main altar of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands a Gothic metal relief of the Virgin Mary with child, worshiped since the 17th century as a palladium, symbol of protection and Guardian of Bohemia. Every year on the anniversary of the death of St. Wenceslas, the 28th of September, a national holiday, St. Wenceslas Celebrations are held in Stará Boleslav and in local churches.
