Who could imagine the Krkonoše Mountains without its typical wooden timbered houses? One of the notable examples of timbered folk architecture is found in Zvědavá ulička (meaning Curious Lane) near the chateau in Jilemnice. You will see houses built after fire swept through the city in 1788. The lane was named because of the way houses are built – each one closer and closer to the street, as if they were leaning in curiously. Why, you ask? Simply so that people could see what was happening on the main street. On the lane you will also find the Šaldův farmstead, which today houses a charming restaurant.
