Světlá nad Sázavou Chateau
The devastated chateau with more than 600 years of history got lucky. It received new owners in 2014 who have been trying to save this important cultural monument and infuse new life into it. The history of the chateau dates back far into the Middle Ages when Štěpán of Šternberk had a Gothic fortress, protected with moats, built on the left bank of the Sázava River in 1393. The chateau is now living with diverse activities and brings joy to the public. You can enjoy it in many different ways.

Exposition of Historical European Glass

You can admire about 1,100 glass articles made from the Baroque period to the 20th century. They all come from a unique collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. Most of the products in the Světlá exposition have been made by Czech glassmakers, but other European glassworks are also represented there, such as from the neighbouring countries, or France.

Exposition of Historical Clocks, Paintings and Sculptures

Visitors can see about a hundred rare historical clocks. There are also historical arms and armour – crossbows, balestrino crossbows, swords, knives or a “person catcher”.

Children’s Kingdom

The “Children’s Kingdom” is an exposition for children and adults, renewed annually. There are antique toys and dolls there, models of castles and chateaus, and other exhibits.

River Sázava Fairy-tale Tour

A trail for children and adults alike, full of legends and a real hell. The tour of the River Sázava exposition is for everyone who wants to learn more about the Světlá region and who does not get scared easily – the tour includes various bogeymen, supernatural beings and weird sounds. Those who make it to the end are rewarded with a great treasure.

Escape Games Based on Ancient Greek Sagas

Since the 2017 season, visitors can enjoy adventure escape games based on ancient Greek sagas. The escape rooms are ideal for families with children, or for groups of children at the age of 10 to 18. Travel together with your team to the times of ancient Greek sagas, overcome all the traps, solve the secret codes and get out of the locked room. But beware, you only have an hour to do so and the clock is ticking!

Chateau Café, Accommodation and Winter Garden

The Ladurée Café is situated in the reconstructed rooms of the Renaissance wing of the chateau. Visitors can choose from a list of homemade cakes and other treats you can enjoy with a cup of good coffee, hot chocolate or other drinks. Refresh yourself in the cosy café interior or by the fountain in the chateau courtyard, listening to some classical music.

The chateau offers accommodation in the chateau suites, located in the Renaissance wing of the chateau with a unique view of the chateau park. The rooms are furnished in classic chateau style to evoke a pleasant atmosphere.

You can admire a winter garden (orangery) with a cave and a pond in the northern wing of the chateau, which can be entered directly from the courtyard. The chateau is surrounded by a landscape park on an area of 18 hectares, with a cascade of ponds, inviting you to take a stroll along the lanes.
