Visit this beautiful chateau which is still used as a residence by the descendants of the old Bohemian aristocratic family of Sternberg. The Baroque chateau was built in 1724 and is a prime example of a Baroque summer residence. The guided tour will show you around several rooms and you will see how noble families lived in centuries gone by. If you like the chateau, you can book an apartment there for a romantic getaway.

Jemniště chateau is located in Central Bohemia south of Prague. The tour includes 9 halls, several rooms and a chapel. You will be guided through the historical interiors housing collections kept by the Sternberg family, and you can also see the chateau’s Chapel of St. Joseph. The chateau also offers occasional night tours and winter visits for groups on request. You can also relax in the chateau café or book a night in one of its beautiful apartments.

History of the chateau

The chateau was completed in 1725 and had several owners. From the mid-19^th century it belonged to the Sternberg family, one of the oldest Czech noble families. However, during World War II, the chateau was confiscated by the Nazis and after the war by the communist government, who turned it into a museum celebrating the friendship between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union. In the 1990s, the chateau was returned to the Sternberg family who now live there and have made it a popular destination for tourists and day trippers. The nearby Konopiště Chateau is also worth visiting.
