Lipnice in the Vysočina region, 80 kilometres east of Prague, is one of the largest Czech aristocratic castles. The best part of the tour is the unique views of the surrounding romantic countryside, especially from the observation deck of the Samson tower.

For seven centuries, the Lipnice Castle served its owners, such as the lords of Lichtenburk or the Trček family from Lípa, and now it serves tourists. It was founded in the rough and wild region in the 14th century, on a rocky hilltop between two hills, to guard the surroundings. The Late Gothic castle was reconstructed in the Renaissance style, and the Chapel of St. Lawrence was rebuilt in the Baroque style. In 1869, a devastated fire came, and the castle had to wait for reconstruction until the 20th century. Today, the free tour of the castle includes the observation deck of the Samson tower, forty metres high. After you climb up the wooden stairs, you can see the castle and the beautiful undulated countryside, sometimes even the highest peak of the Czech Republic, Sněžka (1603 m) is visible.

There are many mysteries linked to the castle thanks to the various legends. Families with children can explore medieval architecture and discover the mystery of Catherine who was walled in, a black man, or a treasure and the third cross. In summer, the courtyard comes to life with theatre performances, fencing and music shows, all in the medieval style.
