Everyone knows that Ferdinand Porsche (1875-1951) designed a Volkswagen 1200 "Beetle" and founded a car factory in Wolfsburg, and as a result almost the whole world was on its wheels. However, it is less known that the legendary designer was born in Vratislavice near Liberec. He spent his youth in the Czech Republic and held Czech citizenship until the age of 59.
In motor sports Ferdinand Porsche became famous not only thanks to the construction of the passenger cars and trucks, but also with his racing cars. The house where he was born is still standing and recently reconstructed, since 2000 a commemorative plaque commemorates the childhood and youth of this skilled plumber. In the house settles Porsche Classic Club Czech Republic, the oldest Czech fan club of Porsche; a part of the interior serves as the exhibition area.
