As was the case for the past several years, King Charles IV set out on a journey from Prague to Karlštejn Castle to solemnly deposit the Crown Jewels in the unique Chapel of the Holy Cross. The procession of Charles IV loosely follows the historical tradition of a pilgrimage associated with the exhibition of the Jewels at Charles Square.
The procession, led by the wise King and his lovely wife, starts in Radotín in Prague and continues to Dobřichovice, where they spend the night. On the second day, they reach their beloved Karlštejn Castle, built by the King as a secure fortress for his Jewellery.
The journey of the ceremonial procession will take two days, the same time it actually took Charles IV in the 14th century. Fortunately, today you are not forced to travel for a whole weekend to get from Prague to Karlštejn Castle, it only takes half an hour by train or car.
Karlštejn Castle is one of many places in the Czech lands, which were influenced by Charles IV. The most intriguing of these can be seen here. Great festivities are planned at many of these places in the Czech Republic. The reason is that in 2016, it will be 700 years since Charles was born
