700th Years of Charles IV – Crown without a King
The exhibition Crown without a King presents the story of the Crown Jewels, the most valuable symbol of the Czech State, in the dramatic 20th century. From 1918 when independent Czechoslovakia was established to the communist coup in February 1948 and the year 1968, you will follow a story of secret transports, glorious moments and hideouts.

The authors of the exhibition managed to collect unique photos and previously unpublished documents relating to events that are not entirely known, such as the secret transfer of the jewels from Prague to Slovakia at a time of imminent threat to the State in September 1938, or the exposition of copies of the jewels at the world exhibition in New York in 1939, where the pavilion of the then "non-existent" Czechoslovakia became, also thanks to the jewels, the main symbol of Czech resistance against the Nazi occupation.

In the last years of the German occupation, the jewels were hidden in the Romanesque cellar of the Old Royal Palace at the Prague Castle. And it is in these unique historical premises where the current exhibition will be presented.
