The 6 Best Czech Ski Resorts
The Czech Republic has a lot to offer to those who love the mountains and winter, whether they enjoy sports, relaxation, or entertainment. You can choose from ski resorts in the Krkonoše Mountains, Šumava, the Jeseníky Mountains, the Beskids, or any of the other mountain areas in and near the Czech Republic. And if you tire of speeding down the slopes, you can switch your downhill skis for cross-country skis and get moving along the white tracks – many Czech ski resorts also have great conditions for cross-country skiing. So where are the best resorts in the Czech Republic?

Špindlerův Mlýn

The town and ski resort of Špindlerův Mlýn can be found in North Bohemia, in the Krkonoše Mountains. It is one of the most important Czech ski resorts and operates 6 chairlifts and 11 ski lifts in Špindlerův Mlýn (Svatý Petr, Hromovka, Medvědín, Labská) and in Horní Mísečky, with a total length of 27 km. Most of the slopes are also equipped with snow guns. There are snow parks and a U-ramp, a ski school, snow tubing, and 90 km of cross-country skiing trails. And what is there to do when you get tired of skiing? Virtually anything! Špindlerův Mlýn has all the amenities to allow you to enjoy your holiday to the full. There are shops, wellness centres, and places to have a drink or two in the evening.

Černá Hora–Pec

The eastern part of the Krkonoše Mountains where these two connected ski resorts are located is a region tailor-made for family holidays. SkiResort Černá Hora–Pec is the largest ski resort in the Czech Republic and is where you can enjoy skiing on 50 km of slopes and trails with a single ski pass. This ski resort is actually made up of a network of six resorts – Černá hora consists of Jánské Lázně, Pec pod Sněžkou, Černý Důl, Velká Úpa, Svoboda nad Úpou, and the Malá Úpa Ski Area. The resorts are either connected with ski slopes or ski buses. There is also a toboggan run, an ice rink, and one of the highest-altitude breweries in the Czech Republic, the Trautenberk Brewery in Malá Úpa.

Klínovec

Klínovec, a state-of-the-art ski resort in the Krušné Mountains, is located in the north-western Czech Republic, near the spas of Jáchymov and Karlovy Vary. Together with the German Fichtelberg resort, it forms the InterSkiregion Fichtelberg-Klínovec, the largest ski resort in the Krušné Mountains. The resorts are connected by a free ski bus. Klínovec has state-of-the-art covered chairlifts and ski lifts The Jáchymov slope is 3 km long and up to 100 m wide, which makes it one of the longest and widest ski slopes in the country. Freestyle fans can enjoy the local Funpark with its series of obstacles and jumps, and cross-country skiers can enjoy 140 km of groomed trails.

Dolní Morava

The Dolní Morava ski resort can be found in the valley of the village of Dolní Morava near the peak of Kralický Sněžník, on the border of East Bohemia and Moravia. The local downhill runs are some of the best to be found in the country. There are two 4-seat chairlifts, four ski lifts, a children’s ski park, the longest bobsleigh track in the country, a toboggan trail, and plenty of other winter fun. Particularly outstanding is the amusement track with banked curves and terrain waves and ending in long tunnels, which combines elements of modern Olympic events such as boardcross, skicross, and freestyle; this unique attraction can be found in the lower part of the U Slona ski slope. And cross-country skiers won’t be left out. There are about 60 km of groomed tracks around Králický Sněžník and connected to the main Jeseníky skiing trail. The starting point of the groomed cross-country skiing trails is the Slaměnka cottage at the top of the Sněžník chairlift. However, nothing can match the experience of climbing up the unique lookout tower called the Sky Walk.

Lipno

The Lipno ski area is our tip for families with children! It is located in South Bohemia, in the foothills of Šumava. The modern ski resort offers safe and snow-covered ski slopes with a total length of 13 km. You can get around comfortably using three 4-seat chairlifts. And when you or your children get tired of skiing, you can take a walk through the treetops or go ice-skating: once the weather has been below freezing for a while, the Lipno dam transforms into a large ice rink!

Kouty nad Desnou

The largest ski resort in Moravia can be found in Kouty nad Desnou, in the Jeseníky Mountains, in the northeast of the country. Also, it is located close to the second-highest mountain in the Czech Republic, which is Praděd at 1492 m. This ski resort is equipped with modern facilities inspired by the Alpine countries, and includes, among other things, the first 6-seat chairlift in the country. The resort is suitable for adults as well as families with children, who can enjoy the gentle ski slopes, more than 3 km of which are available. The resort has a children’s park, a magic carpet, a snow park, cross-country skiing trails, restaurants, a shop, rental facilities, a ski school, and other services. There is a technological attraction near the resort – the Dlouhé Stráně pumped-storage power plant. Have you ever seen a ‘sliced-off’ hill with a water reservoir? You simply must see this marvel of technology, so we recommend booking a tour online in advance.
