Markéta Davidová shone with her victory at the Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia, and suddenly became the new star of Czech sport. Not that it would be such a surprise, but the nice, modest blonde only now fully confirmed her great talent.
The 24-year-old girl was born and lives in the beautiful Jizera Mountains in the town of Janov nad Nisou. She certainly has good sports genes, her mother played volleyball, her father basketball. She won cross-country skiing competitions in her youth, she started biathlon in 2010. After only six years of training and racing, she won two medals at the Junior World Championships. Two years later she won gold and silver at the World Junior Championships.
And that's actually typical of Davidova. Not by rocket, but gradually, continuously, she rises higher and higher step by step. Last year she already had bronze in mixed relay from the World Championships in Italian Anterselva. So far this year, she has been doing so halfway. Good placings, but no podium until Pokljuka, in recent weeks even problematic shooting. At the most important moment, however, she showed the champion's heart.
Markéta Davidová has great sympathies in the Czech Republic. Probably because she's not a typical sports superstar. As if she didn't like the center of attention, biathlon obviously isn't the only thing in her life. She graduated from the University of Zoorehabilitation and Assistance Activities with Animals. At the Czech University of Agriculture, she continues her master's degree in two fields, namely Reproductive Biotechnology and Breeding, Animal Nutrition and Dietetics.
And it is already clear what will happen next. She will race until 2022 and after the Winter Olympics in Beijing she wants to finish her biathlon career.
Recently, she rarely revealed a piece of her privacy. How she likes the Jizera Mountains in the north of Bohemia, places where she spend precious free time. One of them is definitely the Vyšehrad farm at home in Janov nad Nisou, where Markéta spends practically all her free time with her horses, ponies and donkey. From the Maliník hill, she likes to look down on the town of Jablonec. "I so love it here," says Markéta, recalling the places where she learned to ski and raced for the first time.
And finally, she loves to mention Černá Nisa in Bedřichov, where she loves to swim in the summer. And also Hřebínek hutt - where they have the best blueberry pie in the world.
