For those who love a magical atmosphere, there is no better place

The historical seat of the Rosenberg family includes several chateau buildings, the famous Masquerade Hall, a unique Baroque theatre, chateau gardens with a Rococo fountain and the Bellaria summer palace. Although the chateau is closed until March, you can visit the recently opened Castle Museum which is open all year round and is located right under the famous Krumlov chateau tower in the building called Hrádek. This will provide you with an insight into the Rosenbergs, the Lords of Krumlov, the Eggenbergs, the Schwarzenbergs and other important noblemen who lived in Český Krumlov over the centuries and changed the face of the city. You will be welcomed right at the entrance by a magnificent model, which captures the late Gothic appearance of the residence in Český Krumlov in around 1550. The interiors of the museum will remind you of the golden age of European museums in the 19th century, typical for which was variety and imaginativeness, going hand in hand with the outstanding quality of the handicrafts used.

What should you definitely see?

Several artists took a liking to Český Krumlov; these included the eminent Austrian artist Egon Schiele (1890–1918). You can visit the Egon Schiele Art Centrum, an exhibition which is open all year round and which documents his life and work. Another popular destination is Museum Fotoateliér Seidel – a unique location where a tradition of photography emerged in the 19th century. The house with the photographic studio itself is an architectural gem and a place where time has stood still. Another popular excursion is a tour of the Eggenberg Brewery, which has operated in the city since 1560 and where you will gain an insight into the secret of brewing the amber nectar.
