Chateau Hrádek u Nechanic: History, Christmas Tours & Events 2025

The Count Harrach transported a number of antiques from abroad, mainly from Italy and Austria, he bought entire portals, ceilings or complete furnishings of the rooms. His fairy dream vanished soon: in 1866 during the Prussia- Austrian war a military hospital was established in the chateau. After the Second World War the Harrachs lost the chateau by confiscation.

Why visit

Though the chateau is hidden in the forest park it looks like an ancient English manor, it was founded only in the middle of the 19th century and ranks among the youngest chateau structures in the Czech Republic. Through this structure the Count František Arnošt of Harrach fulfilled his romantic dream of reviving the ancient glory of his aristocratic family and remembering their knightly past. The inspiration was drawn from his trips around England.

Christmas 2025

From 28 November to 14 December 2025, the Christmas-decorated interiors will introduce visitors to the history, customs, and traditions of Christmas.
Christmas Evening Tours: On Fridays 28 November, 5 December, and 12 December 2025, enjoy the unique atmosphere of the night exhibition lit partly by candlelight. Tours run from 16:00 to 20:00. Reservation required.
Advent Concerts: Saturdays 29 November, 6 December, and 13 December 2025 at 18:00 and 19:30.
Advent Markets: Sundays 30 November, 7 December, and 14 December 2025 from 9:00 to 16:00.
