The collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague include glass, porcelain and ceramics, applied graphic art and photography, furniture, woodwork, metalwork and other works made from various materials, jewellery, clocks and watches, textiles, fashion and toys. Altogether, the museum has over 250,000 items but for capacity reasons you can only see a fifth of them. But those 50,000 exhibits will take your breath away. The Museum of Decorative Arts includes a public specialised library with literature on arts and related industries. The visitors can also visit the expanded museum shop by Modernista. The museum also manages the permanent exposition of cubism in Dům u Černé Matky Boží (House of the Black Madonna).
The Museum of Decorative Arts opened in mid-November 2017 after three years of reconstruction works that tripled the exhibition space and doubled the spaces for the permanent exposition, a total of 2,750m2 of exhibition space.
