The history of Golden Spike Ostrava began in 1961, at a time when no one could have imagined it would become more than just a Czech athletics phenomenon. Since 2019, it has been a part of the new elite world athletics series under the name World Athletics Continental Tour – Gold. It is the second highest world competition just behind the Diamond League. In the 200m, 300m Steeplechase, discus throw and triple jump, it is even the highest competition.
