United by Mahler
Experience the unforgettable atmosphere of an open air concert featuring Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 7 sometimes known as the Song of the Night. The concert featuring the combined orchestras will take place at the Prague Exhibition Grounds (Výstaviště Praha) in Holešovice in front of the Industrial Palace.
Through both the venue and participating orchestras, the concert of 11 September emulates as closely as possible the world premiere of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 in 1908. At that time, the Prague Exhibition Grounds saw the successful premiere of the symphony, featured as the gala finale of a concert series held in a specially constructed concert hall at the Prague Exhibition Grounds as part of the Jubilee Exhibition. Conducted by Gustav Mahler himself, the symphony was performed by the combined orchestras of the Czech Philharmonic and the then New German Theatre in Prague.

This open-air concert celebrates the Year of Czech Music not only because of Gustav Mahler's Czech roots, but also because he began composing his Seventh Symphony 120 years ago, in 1904. The joint Czech and German orchestras under the leadership of the world-acclaimed Mahler are a reminder to this day that Prague can be rightfully called the “Heart of Europe”.

The original location will host today’s Czech Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, conductor Jakub Hrůša and Mahler’s Seventh Symphony in celebration of the Year of Czech Music.
