Motto: We often appreciate the importance of freedom and humanity when we lack both.
This summer, the chateau gardens in Blatná will be transformed into the Old Testament Jerusalem invaded by Babylonian plunderers. They will become the scene of the ancient story of the liberation of the Jews enslaved by the haughty Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II (in Italian shortened as Nabucco), who proclaimed himself god and was then humiliated by a slave girl. But above all, the gardens will resonate with Giuseppe Verdi’s beautiful melodies, including the celebrated chorus of the Hebrew slaves “Va, pensiero sull´ ali dorate” (Fly, thought, on golden wings) from the third act of the opera. The Opera ensemble of the South Bohemian Theatre under the baton of the general music director Mario De Rose has prepared an extraordinary musical experience with a live orchestra, outstanding soloists and an enlarged opera choir. Directed by the artistic head of the Opera ensemble of the South Bohemian Theatre, Tomáš Ondřej Pilař, this spectacular open sky performance with the romantic background of the beautiful South Bohemian chateau will offer a timeless rendition of a theme which even today loses nothing of its urgency.
In the second year of Blatná Summer Theatre, visibility and comfort of the audiences will be considerably improved in cooperation with the owners of Blatná Chateau.
This production is staged as part of the South Bohemian Theatre’s Country Project.
The Jitřenka Children’s Choir led by choirmaster Elvíra Gadžijeva will also participate in the performance.
